The Raddest Quiz You’ll Ever Take

We mean it. Your perfect ebike is just a few questions away.

Take a Quiz

Our Ebikes are available in three different frame styles

  • High-Step. Higher top tube design. Riders must swing their leg over the top tube for mounting and dismounting.
  • Step-Thru. Frame design without a top tube. No need to swing a leg over - rider mounts and dismounts by stepping over the low, dropped frame.
  • Mid-Step. Lower top-tube angle than a high-step frame. Riders find a more forgiving angle for swinging their leg over when mounting and dismounting.

Stop D · The garage

We Build Better Bikes.

Fueled by 20 Years of Radness

Back in 2005, our founder Mike Radenbaugh cobbled together his first ebike in his parent's garage – and we've been on a roll ever since.

Rad Power Bikes kickstarted a two-wheeled revolution, brought together a community of over 680,000 riders, and even earned a world record for the largest ebike group ride.

So, sure, we outgrew the garage, but Mike's free-spirited vision lives on – and you can feel it in every ride.

Stop E · The Frankenbike

One teenage tinkerer, six turns of the odometer

  1. 15-mile

Before he was the Founder & Chairman of North America’s largest ebike maker, Mike Radenbaugh was a teenager tinkerer. He’d spend hours in his parents' garage soldering spare electronic parts to an old bicycle in hopes of developing a better way to complete his rural and hilly 15-mile ride to high school.

  2. The Frankenbike

The result was “The Frankenbike,” a battery-powered ride that could outpace cars — and get him to class without breaking a sweat. His mom suggested a catchy name for the new project: Rad Power Bikes.

  3. $320,000

Within 30 days, Rad raised $320,000 to start building the all-new RadRover, an electric fat tire bike that would go on to transform the entire industry.

  4. RadWagon

The RadWagon electric cargo bike was the next to join the line-up. It raised the bar for what people could do on two wheels, thanks to an elongated frame, a roomy staging area for child seats, and a jaw-dropping 350 lb. weight capacity.

  5. RadMini

Next came the RadMini an electric folding bike fine-tuned for both apartment-dwellers and RV explorers. Then the RadCity for commuters looking to sidestep traffic. Step-thru models soon entered the mix, tearing down longstanding barriers to cycling.

  6. 650,000

With over 650,000 riders across the globe, and more jumping in the saddle every day, Rad Power Bikes is committed to more than award-winning electric bikes. We’re laser-focused on redefining transportation at large.

What the press said, and who rode along

WIRED praised the RadRunner for its “magic blend of affordability and usefulness.”

Rolling Stone called the RadRover 6 Plus the “next generation of personal transportation.”

Electrek described the RadCity as “the ultimate commuter e-bike from Rad Power Bikes.”

“The day's show of support is proof that ebikes are a real game changer in how people get around and interact within the bicycling community.” Cascade Bicycle Club's Executive Director Richard Smith

“How I Built This: Mike Radenbaugh”, the NPR conversation, and “The Teenage Tinkerer Behind an E-Bike Revolution” in The New York Times.

“I’m never going to stop commuting on this,” Mike announced as soon as he rolled the RadMission into Shasta.

Stop I · Test Ride Tuesday

Hill Climbing with RadMission

Questions like this are why we launched Test Ride Tuesday, a new series that gives riders a taste of what our electric bikes can do in real-world situations.

We took our latest model to the Issaquah Highlands in Washington, a neighborhood that, as the name suggests, is packed with steep hills. On a regular bike, navigating those streets would be a grueling, sweaty slog. On a Mission? Not so much.

The experts at Electric Bike Review took an up-hill test ride of their own and tried relying solely on the throttle. A few seconds later ebike guru Court Rye had his verdict: “I’m impressed! It’s a zippy motor. That for me is one of the biggest highlights of this bike.”

It's no wonder EBR named the RadMission best affordable electric bike of 2020.

“We worked hard to make it feel powerful,” he said. “It climbs hills really well because it combines a geared hub motor with narrower tires to cut down on the rolling resistance. It also weighs less than our other bikes, which helps.” Cory Tsai, the product manager behind the RadMission

Stop J · The Radometer

How Well Do You Know Your LCD Display?

The liquid crystal displays (cool, right?!) on our bikes showcase all the important information you need while riding, from the amount of charge left on your battery to the number of miles under your belt.

You interact with the display using the three buttons on the "display remote" on the left side of the handlebar, which includes a mode button along with Up and Down arrows.

The odometer

It's easy to rack up miles when you're having fun. The odometer (or, as some Radvocates call it, the Radometer) is a great way to track your goals. After 6,213 miles (9,999 km), your numbers will roll-over.

The wattmeter

Your battery has a 672 watt-hour capacity and with the display, you can track how much power you're using at any given time. A cyclist pedaling at full capacity for 20 minutes on a conventional bike maintains a power output of about 164 watts. An average Tour De France cyclist generates about 429 watts.

The speed

Our Class 2 ebikes can go up to 20 mph (U.S. spec, 32 km/h in Canada). Corgis average around 10 mph, while cats are comfortable racing you at 20 mph!

Stop K · Under the hood

Know Your Motor: Geared Hub vs. Direct Drive

One of the biggest decisions is making sure that each type of bike is equipped with the motor that complements it best. A geared hub motor provides a good deal of low-end power. When you're in dirt, sand, or climbing up a fire road, having that extra oomph is helpful for pushing through trickier starts.

Direct drive models rely on motors that are more efficient over longer distances and at higher speeds. Located in the rear hub of the wheel, the motor utilizes a system of magnets to propel the bike, and it can offer a regenerative braking feature.

The RadMission is a different kind of electric bike: a single-speed marvel that's just $999 in the U.S. At under 50 pounds, it's 30 percent lighter than our other models.

Motor
750W in US, 500W in Canada, 250W in EU. The RadMission comes with a 500W motor (North America, 250W in EU).
Battery
Each of our ebikes comes standard with a 750W geared hub/direct-drive motor powered by a 48V, 14 Ah (672 Wh) removable Lithium-Ion battery pack.
Range
Generally, the battery gives the bikes an expected range between 25-45 miles on a single charge depending on the level of pedal assist, terrain, and rider size.
Charging
Charging the battery from empty to full can take between 3-7 hours, and the charger that is included with your bike can plug into any standard wall outlet.
Battery life
One with these specifications will average about 5 years of Rad riding. Frequent riders will see about 2.5 years of life from their battery, while a casual rider's battery can last closer to 6-7 years.

Three Tips for Riding Your Electric Bike in the Dark

1. Pick the right light.

Whether you're riding at night, in the early morning, or in foggy weather, a headlight, tail light, and integrated brake light are must-haves. Our electric bikes come with a 200-lumen headlight, which meets industry standards and is designed to give you plenty of visibility. If you're looking for a little extra confidence, we also offer a 500-lumen premium LED Halo headlight as a stand-alone accessory.

2. Dress yourself (and your bike!) for success.

You can't rely on your bike being noticed based on its radness alone. You have to go out of your way to be seen. That's because drivers are hardwired to notice motion on the road and when you're pedaling, your legs are moving. Keep your headlight on, go with a taillight, and consider wrapping the frame and fenders with a few reflective safety stickers.

3. Ride defensively.

According to the latest data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 75 percent of cycling fatalities that involve motor vehicles take place in urban areas and 27 percent occurred at traffic intersections. Go where cars are expecting you: bike lanes, bike paths, and other frequently cycled areas.

Stop N · The Earth Day ride

Here's What Happens When You Use an Ebike Instead of a Car

That's because for every mile spent driving, the average car releases 404 grams of CO 2, a greenhouse gas that builds in the atmosphere and wreaks havoc on the climate.

  1. Groceries

Most Americans will drive roughly four miles to reach the supermarket. That adds up to about 3,232 grams of CO 2 every time you decide to stock up on groceries.

  2. The commute

For years, the average commute has hovered around 15 miles. If you rely on a car, that adds up to about 6,060 grams of CO 2 emissions every trip.

  3. Take-out

If you've been jumping in the car to pick up some of your favorite take-out, you're probably traveling about 3.3 miles. Use an ebike to grab that Thai food or pizza and you'll end up saving about 1,333 grams of CO 2.

  4. Just for fun

How far would you go to have some fun? According to the data, that answer's probably close to 12 miles. That means you can save 4,848 grams of CO 2 by using an ebike instead.

  5. School run

You can save 2,908 grams of CO 2 by using an ebike for your average pick-up and drop-off trip.

  6. The year

On average, Americans drive 13,476 miles per year. How many of these trips can be replaced by an ebike?
